Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has expressed disappointment in Microsoft’s Copilot, saying it fails to generate significant value, even though Microsoft has gained recognition in the industry through its release. Benioff voiced these concerns in the Rapid Response podcast, which was promoted with the provocative title, “Salesforce Can Beat Microsoft in the Field of Piece Intelligence.”
Benioff speculated that the initial excitement around Copilot might fade quickly unless the service evolves. He went so far as to predict that customers could lose interest rapidly, potentially leading Microsoft to discontinue or shelve the service in the future.
Copilot Compared to Clippy
“When I see how Copilot is sold to our clients, it’s disappointing. It doesn’t work. It throws data around without adding value. Copilot is just the new Microsoft Clippy,” Benioff remarked, comparing it to Microsoft’s infamous 1990s virtual assistant.
Benioff emphasized that Salesforce plays a major role in business intelligence, generating trillions of transactions annually. To build on this strength, the company recently launched Agentforce, a tool that enables businesses to create custom AI-powered agents tailored to their specific needs.
Microsoft’s AI Strategy and Push Forward
Microsoft’s focus on artificial intelligence has been evident in its significant investments, including a $10 billion injection into ChatGPT. This partnership has given Microsoft access to the GPT model, which it integrates into its offerings.
Copilot was first introduced for Microsoft 365 services in March, and Microsoft quickly expanded its availability, reminds NIX Solutions. By the end of summer, a beta version of Copilot was added to Windows 11. Microsoft also rolled out mobile versions for iOS and Android in early 2024, supporting 37 languages, including Ukrainian.
